Prerequisites

1. Quick Start & Setup

Set up MagDrive desktop on Windows, macOS, or Linux and configure your first storage vault.

Installation

Download the prebuilt installer for your operating system from the Download Center. On Windows, execute the .msi installer. On macOS, mount the .dmg and drag MagDrive to Applications. On Linux, install the .deb or execute the standalone .AppImage.

MagDrive is fully self-contained. It includes an embedded SQLite database and local PKCE loopback authentication server.

Creating Your First Master Vault

When you launch MagDrive for the first time, you will be prompted to create or import a Vault:

  1. 1Enter a descriptive Vault Name (e.g. 'Engineering Core', 'Media Archive').
  2. 2Set a strong Master Passphrase. This passphrase is processed locally via Argon2id (64MB memory, 3 iterations) to derive your 256-bit AES master key.
  3. 3Save your Recovery Token and Salt in a safe location. Because MagDrive is zero-knowledge, lost passphrases cannot be recovered by anyone.
